The PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) a teaching qualification that is considered to be the stepping stone if you want to teach in the post-compulsory education. The teaching time is 30 hours in this short six-credit course. At present, the government of UK has replaced the PTLLS course with the AET (Award in Education and Training) course. The AET/PTLLS course is ideal for those who want to invest their time and efforts in educating others. It is not essential to be a teacher or to have a teaching background in order to participate in this foundation level course. The individuals from other fields of professions or the individuals with no history of working in any sector are equally qualified to participate in this training program. This foundation level course is mandatory for anyone who wants to teach the students above 16 years of age and the Canary Wharf Academy has a meticulously designed AET/PTLLS course for the interested individuals.
The Level-3 Award in Education and Training (AET) program that is available through the Canary Wharf Academy is suitable for those who are interested in teaching and tutoring along with the individuals who are interested in being successful supervisors, managers or team leaders. This is a four-day course where individuals as well as organizations can participate.

Through AET PTLLS course of Canary Wharf Academy, you can learn the essentials of teaching as well as organisational skills. This course also encourages the group learning and team building skills. The participants also receive updated assessment procedures and encourage other team building skills, such as leadership, coaching and mentoring. It is essential to get at least 12 credits in order to complete this qualification. A participant will learn how to plan the lessons or how to fulfil the teaching role after completing this course. The level-3 AET course is made of three different units.
- You can achieve 3 credits in order to understand the roles, relationships as well as responsibilities in education and training.
- You can achieve 6 credits in order to facilitate the learning and for development in groups.
- You can achieve 3 credits in order to understand the assessment in education and training.
The Canary Wharf Academy does not just train the participants. The trainers of PTLLS teaching course observe the performance of the participants in the workplace during a training session. The Level-3 Award that you receive in Education and Training through this academy is accredited by the NOCN.
There is no special requirement for the participants of this course. However, it is crucial to have the basic knowledge in literacy and basic numeracy alongside having ICT skills in order to participate in the AET/PTLLS course. It is equally essential for the participants to be at least 19 years of age.
The participants also need to have the opportunity to deliver training at the workplace, as it enables the trainers from this academy to assess their skills after the completion of this course. Your scores will depend largely upon this assessment where the trainers will observe the delivery of a training session. You are also required to produce a portfolio of evidence with the assistance of a trainer in accordance to the specified standard of this course.
